What You’re Setting Up

Raley Emails Notifications is an Atlassian Connect add-on for cloud Jira and JSM. It performs two primary functions:
  1. Event-triggered notifications — monitors issue, project, and version events, evaluates conditions, and sends automated emails or Slack messages
  2. Periodic digest notifications — generates scheduled reports that aggregate information about multiple Jira issues into a single email

Prerequisites

  • A Jira Cloud or JSM Cloud subscription
  • Jira Admin permissions to install and configure the add-on
  • Raley Emails Notifications installed from the Atlassian Marketplace

How a Notification Rule Works

Every notification rule has three parts:
PartDescription
ConditionDefines when the notification fires (e.g., “High priority issue in project ABC has a public comment added”)
Message TemplateUses Velocity-style formatting to combine static text with dynamic issue/project field data
DestinationThe recipient — a static email, dynamic address from a Jira field, Slack channel, or distribution list

Step 1 — Open the App

In your Jira project, go to Apps → Raley Emails Notifications in the top navigation.

Step 2 — Create Your First Notification

  1. Click Add new notification
  2. Give the notification a descriptive name
  3. Set the Event that will trigger it (e.g., Issue Commented, Workflow Transition)
  4. Add a Condition if you want to filter which issues it applies to (optional)
  5. Build your Message Template — you can start from a predefined template or write your own
  6. Set the Destination — enter an email address, select a Jira field that contains an email, or configure a Slack channel
  7. Click Save

Step 3 — Test It

Use the Preview button to simulate the notification against a specific Jira issue key and confirm the output looks correct before it goes live. Use the Test Send button to send an actual test email to yourself.

Step 4 — Monitor Delivery

After your notification is live, check the Send Audit tab to see sent notifications and any delivery errors. See Monitoring for details on setting up admin delivery alerts.

Digest Notifications

Instead of one email per event, digest notifications collect changes across multiple issues over a time period and send them as a single summary email. This is useful for:
  • Daily summaries of commented issues
  • Weekly high-priority issue reports grouped by assignee
  • Alerts for issues with no activity in N days
To set up a digest, follow the same steps but choose a Scheduled / Digest event type and configure the time interval and JQL filter.
